Some Terms in Texas Hold'em Poker

There are a lot of important terms in Texas Hold'em poker that will help the player to do better in the game. Players need to learn this because how can they give their best in a game if everybody at the table is speaking a language that they are not familiar with.

These are some of the terms that are used in the game:

Quads, which means four of any kind. This is also known as four of a kind.

Rag, which means a card that has no effect whatsoever on the current hand that is being played.

Rainbow, which means a flop hand which has three different card suits making it unable to complete a flop or a complete five card with no more than two cards belonging in a suit, which also makes a flush impossible.

Raise, this happens when a player matches the previous wager and adds to it, adding more cash to the cash pot and enlarging the wager of the other players that are after it. The next player then has to call the raise or fold.

Rake, which is the cash that the house charges per hand of poker that is played. It is usually a percentage or a flat fee that is taken from each cash pot at the end of each hand.

Rake-Back, which is the percentage of the rake that casino gives back to the players.

Re-Buy, in most tournaments, a player can buy a back-in that will help them add chips to their existing stack.

Re-Raise, which is to raise after a player makes a raise on the same hand thus not only calling another bettors raise but adding to that raise thus increasing the pot.

Ring Game, which is an actual poker game that is not classified as an official tournament.

The River, which in a Hold'em poker game, is the final poker card after the fourth round of wagering happens. This last card will make or break a poker hand and many people are saved by the river or killed by it. The river is also called 'Fifth Street'.

These are just some of the terms that a player will encounter in Texas Hold'em Poker. It may sound useless learning a new language but it will help you in the long run. If you appear to be ignorant even with the simplest terms during the game, you will be an easy target. Being informed is better so that you are not considered an easy mark. If you want to succeed in playing the game, you have to be familiar with some of these terms.
